is it legal to ride a go kart on road?
ok so my freinds all have 4 wheelers and they cant fit my go kart on there trailer and there land is not even half a mile away its like right down the road and i was wondering how i could make it street legal or if it was legal btw i live in north carolina.
Obviously you know the answer concerning the legality of driving it up the road, it is not legal. (or do you live on a private road, then it would be a matter for the civic association as well as law enforcement) Concerning making it legal to drive on the street, that is a different story, you would need to install head lights, brake lights, turn signals a horn and maybe even a windshield and wipers, possible an exhaust system with catalytic converter and then there is the question of brakes, would what the go kart has be considered safe or legal for street use. And then there is registering it, would the DMV just laugh at you or just go ahead and issue you a tag.
If you have good relations with the local police, I’d suggest speaking with them and seeing if they would be willing to turn blind eye to it (if it is only to get from your home to a safe riding place and it is only a half mile, they might).
